This one day course (Friday 25th August 2023 from 09:30AM to 4:30PM) is aimed at healthcare professionals who are involved in the exercise training component and management care of older adults and individuals at risk for functional decline. The content will be delivered online (Zoom) with a combination of lecture-style presentations, practical demonstrations, and small group case study discussions that will cover:
• The importance of mitigating declines in skeletal muscle mass and function for healthy aging and its consequences for sarcopenia
• Principles of exercise training and prescription in older adults and individuals at risk of functional decline
• Current guidelines and contemporary research on emerging approaches for exercise prescription in older adults
• The interaction of exercise and nutrition in skeletal muscle health in older age
• Planning single exercise training sessions and programming exercise training interventions targeting improved muscle function in older adults
Learning will be supported by a pre-course reading and resources pack, and all presented materials will be provided to attendees upon completion of the course.
